Laura Griffin's "Tri for the Cure"

(For training updates...please see the diary section.)

Hello everyone! Well it's official. I have joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma society's Team in Training program & on April 25, 2004, I will be competing in my first-ever triathlon in St. Petersburg, Florida. No your eyes are NOT deceiving you! I did say triathlon. I will swim .9 mi, bike 25 mi. and run 6.2 mi as part of my personal challenge to help find a cure for blood-related cancers.

The Team in Training program prepares thousands of runners, cyclists, and triathletes around the country for marathons, century rides, and triathlons in order to raise money to fund leukemia research. The mission of the Society is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's diseas and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. This money is used for numerous things, including research, education, patient financial aid and family support groups. My goal is to personally raise $4,200 to aid the society in finding cures for these types of cancer.

As many of you know, in 2002, I founded the Brimming with Love charity project (www.brimmingwithlove.com) that provides free hats to cancer patients across the DFW metroplex. Over the last year, I have had the privelege of meeting many brave souls who are fighting the battle against this disease. Through the help of people like you, they are gradually winning that battle. Elizabeth, Maura, & Jeshua (3 of our North Texas Chapter honored heroes) are all in remission. It is for them, and for all the patients I have met in the last year, that I am challenging myself.

I am asking you to help me raise $4,200 for the LLS. Of course, 100% of your donation is tax deductible and 75% of your donation goes DIRECTLY to the researchers. Every donation, big or small, helps!

Don't forget, many companies will match donations so check to see if yours has a program for charitable giving.

Although I would appreciate your financial support, I realize that donating to any cause is a very personal decision. Even if you choose not to donate at this time, your words of encouragement are just as valuable. I will need them to get me through the daily training hours I will be logging over the next few months.

If you would like me to add someone that you know to my Honored Heroes list, please let me know who they are and it would be my pleasure to train and raise funds in their honor.
